Our Goal: 100% Renewable Energy in Rochester By 2030
Rochester is ready to make the transition to 100% renewable energy. Our goal is for Rochester to act on our values as America’s City for Health to help solve the largest public health risk the world has ever faced: climate change. We aim for Rochester to commit to a just, equitable, and fast transition to 100% renewable energy, develop a realistic plan for this transition, adopt the plan, and implement the plan. To make this goal happen, Rochester needs your help.
Why Go 100% Renewable?
Transitioning to 100% renewable in the next 10-30 years is necessary to help avoid the worst effects of climate change. While this change provides us with our best chance to avoid oncoming risks, it also comes with added benefits.
We Need 100% Renewable…Right Now
We’re already seeing the effects of climate change right now.
There is now more carbon in the atmosphere that any time in human history, intensifying the greenhouse effect and warming the world.
Weather is becoming more unpredictable, dangerous, and deadly.
The oceans are warming and sea levels are rising at an alarming pace.
A 2018 study estimates that we only have until 2030 to reduce emissions enough to avoid the worst affects of climate change.
The Opportunities Before Us
Transitioning to 100% renewable able energy comes with added benefits.
Create local, prevailing wage, and family sustaining jobs.
Create a more resilient energy system safer from extreme weather and outside attacks.
Lock in low, family-friendly energy prices protected from volatile gas prices.
Keep our energy dollars in the MN economy.
Find Your Motivation To Support Change
Change can be hard. Even when you know it’s the right thing to do. Even when you know the potential to benefit. The key to change is finding your motivation.
Who do you what a better life for? Who do you want a better, more sustainable world for? This might be your children, your grandchildren, your parents, your friends, or even yourself. We have a small window of time to get the wheels of change moving right now to meet our goals in the next 10 years. You can help make this change a reality and set your family, friends, and yourself up for the best chance at a sustainable future.
